Through offering our support, we enable our people and our communities to grow, to become missionary and to thrive. We are working towards all of our churches becoming outward-looking churches.
Sunday 9th March was the Rite of Election at our Diocesan Cathedral in Nottingham. The Rite of Election is a ritual that marks entry into the final phase of preparation to receive the sacraments of initiation into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. These sacraments include Baptism, The Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Our group consists of five catechumens, those who are new to the church and have not yet been baptised, and three candidates who have already been baptised into a Christian tradition and now wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.
Our day was spent with a preparatory session in the morning about the sacraments of initiation, followed by a lively mass at Sacred Heart. We shared a 'pot luck' lunch in the presbytery before heading off to St Barnabas Cathedral where we met with other groups just like ours from across the Diocese. Bishop Patrick prayed with each group before each catechumen and candidate wrote their names in the Book of the Elect. Our group will all be received into the church during the Easter Vigil Masses at Sacred Heart, Our Lady's and St Joseph's. Please keep them in your prayers.
